Board Members MEET OUR MH-MA BOARD MEMBERS

Maur Hill-Mount Academy welcomes four new members to the Board of Directors:

Douglass J. Adair has been Assistant Operations Officer and Assistant Vice-President since joining the First National Bank in Leavenworth, Kansas, in 2008. Raised in Atchison, Kansas, Mr. Adair is a 1994 graduate of Maur Hill Prep School. At MH-MA, Mr. Adair is a member of the Dr. Richard R. Dickason, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Committee and is co-president of the Alumni Association. The Board will benefit tremendously from Mr. Adair’s proficiency in the area of finance. “I am excited, honored, and humbled to serve my alma mater on its board of directors,” he said. “This institution provides a solid foundation and education for students at a crucial time of their lives and left this student of history with a continual desire to learn and an insatiable curiosity about life.”

Robert Albers contributes to the Board forty-eight years of knowledge in the field of education. Working as a teacher at the Elementary and Secondary School level in Mt. Hope, KS, DeKalb, MO and Atchison; as an Elementary School Principal in Mt. Hope, Powhattan, KS, and Denton, KS; and as a Secondary School Principal in Garden Plain, KS. In the role as Superintendent of Schools he served in the following school districts in Kansas: Powhattan, Midway, Silver Lake, Circle, and Basehor-Linwood. In addition, he was the Interim Superintendent of Schools At Douglas County West School District in Vallley, NE. Bob and his wife Betty, have six children, daughters, Jean and Sr. Mary Elizabeth, SOLT; and sons, Joseph, Gregory and Rev. James Albers, OSB St. Benedict’s Abbey, Atchison.

Janet Wilcox also has considerable experience in the area of education. She has held positions as Assistant Director of Student Activities at Park College in Parkville, MO and Adjunct Faculty in the Education Department of Benedictine College. She served Mount St. Scholastica Academy as Social Studies and Religious Studies teacher from 1986 to 2001 and as Assistant–Principal from 1997 to 2001. At that time, she accepted the position as Principal at Bishop LeBlond High School in St. Joseph, MO. In 2008, she became the Assistant Academic Dean and director of the Student Success Center at Benedictine College. “I think it is essential that Atchison continues to offer quality Catholic, secondary, school education not only for its residents, but for students from around the globe as well,” Mrs. Wilcox said. “MH-MA is a special place; it is unique. I hope I can contribute something to the board that will ensure the continuity and growth of the institution.”

Theresa Worman, who brings expertise in the area of business, currently serves as Vice President of Business Development for Compdata Surveys, a compensation consulting and survey firm located in Olathe, KS. Coming from a large family of educators, Tess has a deep appreciation for the value of a strong education, and she understands the impact our school can have in shaping the future for our children. As a 1989 graduate of MSSA, she welcomes the opportunity to share her experience with the Maur Hill-Mount Academy community.

Maur Hill Mount Academy has and will continue to benefit tremendously from the leadership and experience of its Board of Directors. Members who will continue to serve on the 2010-2011 MH-MA Board of Directors include: Jonathan Mize, Chairman, Kevin Cummings, Vice Chairman, Pat Domann, Secretary, Sr. Rose Marie Stallbaumer, OSB, Treasurer, Charlie Adams, Janelle Hegarty, Mick Harris, Sr. Mary Margaret Kean, OSB, Michael Kuckelman, Fr. Gabriel Landis, OSB, Amy Minnis, Keith Mispagel, Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB, Prioress Anne Shepard, OSB, and Kelly Vowels. President Phil Baniewicz expressed his gratitude to the outgoing members of the board for their extensive contributions to MH-MA. These members include: Donna Fuhrman, Dr. James Haug, John Jurcyk, and Timothy Regan.
